Research & Teaching Laboratories

About our facilities

The department includes research and training laboratories equipped with the necessary equipment needed by undergraduate students and researchers Both including, drilling fluids and sample preparation laboratory, core sample preparation, rock physical measurements laboratory, Description of petroleum reservoirs, study of sedimentary cover, description of sedimentary rocks, making fine sections, separation of sedimentary components. and fossil. The department also contains two grants from the most prestigious petroleum companies for modeling and evaluation Components and Interpretations of Seismic Sections: Halliburton (Landmark Program) and Schlumberger (Petrel Program).

Drilling Laboratory

Bld. A50. Ro. 15D14

The objective of the drilling lab is studying the properties of the clay used during drilling operations, in addition to drilling and preparing core samples.

Contact: Dr. Rayan Khalil or Mr. Hani Basheikh for more info.

Petrophysical Properties Laboratory

Bld. A50. Ro. 15D15

The Petrophysical Characteristics Laboratory is concerned with studying the physical properties of rocks related to oil storage and movement, such as porosity and permeability.

Contact: Dr. Rayan Khalil or Mr. Hani Basheikh for more info.

Paleontology Laboratory

Bld. A50. Ro. 15D16

The lab focuses on preparing large and small fossil samples for use in the analysis and reconstruction of the ancient past of ancient and modern sedimentary environments using equipment, tools and computer programs specialized in the field such as microscopes, R, Python, PAST and others.

Contact: Dr. Majed Turkistani or Mr. Rayan Thiqa for more info.

Sedimentary Rocks Laboratory

Bld. A50. Ro. 15D17

This lab focuses on describing thin sections of sedimentary rocks by polarizing microscopy.

Contact: Dr. Hamdallah Wanas or Mr. Raad Tayeb for more info.

Sediment Volumetric Analysis Laboratory

Bld. A50. Ro. 15D18

This lab focuses on the volumetric analysis of sediments by sieving sandy sediments and aqueous suspensions of alluvial and clay sediments.

Contact: Dr. Hamdallah Wanas or Mr. Raad Tayeb for more info.

Sedimentary Cover Laboratory

Bld. A50. Ro. 15D06 and 15D07

The laboratory aims to teach students the types of sedimentary formations found in the Arabian Gulf region Its economic feasibility

Contact: Dr. Majed Turkistani or Mr. Raad Tayeb for more info.

Petroleum Reservoir Modeling Laboratory

Bld. A50. Ro. 25D45

The lab aims to model and analyze petroleum reservoirs, analyze seismic sections, and well logging using the latest educational software licenses such as Petrel, TechLog, and Landmark.
