History

The Department of Petroleum Geology and Sedimentology was established in 1396 AH (1976 AD), where the department teaches theoretical and applied aspects related to petroleum geology. The Department of Petroleum and Sediments is equipped with research and training laboratories and includes the necessary equipment needed by undergraduate students and researchers both including, drilling fluids and sample processing lab, core sample processing, rock petrophysics lab, petroleum reservoirs description, study of Arabian sedimentary cover, description of sedimentary rocks, making of fine sections, separation of sedimentary and fossil components. as such the department has obtained two grants from the most prestigious petroleum companies for modeling and evaluating the formations and interpretations of seismic sections, which is the Halliburton Company (Landmark Program) and Schlumberger (Petrel Program).

The department offers the following degrees:

  1. Bachelor degree in Petroleum Geology and Sedimentats Sciences
  2. Master degree in Petroleum Geology and Sedimentats Sciences
  3. PhD degree in Petroleum Geology and Sedimentats Sciences
